Connecting-Art - This International art group consists of fourteen carefully selected, visual artists, who met at the 2003 Florence Biennial in Florence, Italy, and have since established Connecting-Art as a means of maintaining contact and providing a catalyst for interaction, understanding, and creative growth. As United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said, "Artists have a special role to play in the global struggle for peace. At their best, artists speak not only to people; they speak for them...." "I always say that my art is not complete without people looking at it. Without observers, it is like that noise in the forest with no one to hear it - I feel that when people look away, when nobody's looking, its meaning and therefore, its very self, disappears." Lisa Falzon
"I follow no set techniques, or subscribe to any individual genre or form. My work is spontaneous, stemming from raw emotion, visual experiences or subconscious ideas that intrigue my sense of creativeness. My inspiration stems from artists both celebrated and unknown, I am fueled by the continuous support and the positive, heartfelt appreciation of my fans and friends." Sarah Pezdek-Smith

This may be the second oldest question and probably no real answers, only guesses. If this is true, does art really exist outside the "eye of the beholder", is it a state of mind, a fleeting moment in a timeless universe, the play of shadows and light, can we taste it, can we hear it, can we read it? Maybe it is easier to define what art is not. A few thoughts on WHAT IS ART ...
re: Ibsen said, "There must be a troll in what I write." Art, today, encompasses the dream postponed into anything-goes. Justified in letting the artist descend into mediocrity, spiraling around an ego put upon a pedestal. As if, all that a person does is art. And it is. But I have no time for it. I agree with Harold Bloom in a recent interview. He asked, would you want just anyone to do surgery on you? Of course not. You want someone to know what they are doing before they cut into you. Yet today we look at the arts as if everything is the fine craftsmanship of a great artist, and much of it isn't. Until you become yourself what benefit can you be to others? Mediocrity appeals to the mass, and it appeals to the mass ego. And though it may be art, it is not the exceptional dream, enchanting the child, like a kiss walking home to my knowledge, in an unformulated illustration which wakes me up. Michael Carrico

How meaning emerges in Abstract Art - My paintings come to be through a paradoxical, almost antithetical combination of absolute spontaneity of execution (they tend to happen all at once, without fussing or changes) and a long period of preparation where I consider all about them before painting them in a flash. Julio Mateo
Existential Art - What is 'Existential Art'? existential (eg'zis-ten'shel) adj. of or based on existence. (state of being) The basics of existentialism is that we are all alone, free, abandoned in the hostile world and that struggling against coemption, apathy, lethargy, entropy... self-realization is the only thing that keeps us free. Not that freedom is entirely possible while still controlled by ones biological urges ( like baby making and it's nesting urges.) The more you adhere to a preconceived view of reality the less self-will you have. Humans are not god incarnate, but not for lack of trying. L'Nhoj Yesdnil
"I paint all the time these days... it seems to be the only thing that really gives me a lift... but then other days it can do the opposite, but that's just the way of it i guess... Ive never had a lesson and was twice refused entry into Art College in the city that i was living in... but thats ok.. " Australian Glenn Brady
"i have very real relationships with the people in my images and often give them names... i say goodbye to them in the morning and it's nice to know they'll be there for me when i get home...it's also important to have them around me at bedtime...i feel protected when they're around... " Ashley Reaks
"When I photograph I want my eyes to breath in synchrony with the image. In photographing a flower, I feel the breathing of life of the flower and I take an instant brightness of its life. In other words, I seek to capture the "poetry" of the motif in the instant of its appearance." Shin Terada
