Nguyen Temple have been working in their studio in the
jungle on Maui, Hawaii where the inspiration is often the
natural beauty of the valley around them. As of May 2005

Leslie and Terris have been working
together for more than a decade creating some extraordinary
historical monumental Buddhist images for Tsurphu monastery
in Tibet.
These giant silk
appliqués are located at Tsurphu Karmapa's seat in
Tibet.
Terris Temple is the
painting nearly 40 years ago. His focused enthusiasm for
then at Buddhist centers across Hawaii. As well as creating
thangkas, he paints birds, flowers and landscapes on silks
with mineral and botanical pigments. He is presently
reediting the Tsurphu
Thangka video .
Leslie Nguyen's creative
background and study of psychology led her to first work in
Asia, she met Terris Temple and began the study of Tibetan
thangka painting. Leslie uses silks and brocades blended
with painting to create fresh imagery based on techniques
found in Eastern Tibet. She creates thangkas, seascapes,
techniques.

Art Studios accepts commissioned work in both traditional
and contemporary forms in sizes ranging from small to
monumental.

Tibetan Thangka painting in Nepal from 1966 to 1975 with
various Tibetan Masters beginning with the State Artist of
Tibet, the late Jampa Tseden.
While Terris was studying during
this early period in Nepal he met his root guru, Rigpe
Dorje, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.
On a visit to Maui Hawaii in 1976,
His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, a famous bird lover,
as well as the supreme head of the thousand year Karma
Kargyudpa order of Tibetan Buddhism, inspired Terris to
begin bird and flower painting. Terris has taught
and across Hawaii since 1974. In 2003 he began teaching for
KTC Phoenix Az. Presently with his family they reside in
Thailand and are working in Tibet.
The materials he uses are solely
mineral colors and botanical dyes mixed with skin glue as a
binder and painted on sheer silk.
1966. My paintings of birds and flowers allow me to relax
and flow, whereas the Tibetan Buddhist images demand great
concentration while conforming to the sacred geometry
defined by tradition. Both of these experiences give me a
sense of completeness and joy.
The mineral pigments combine
beautiful, bright subtle colors with a positive healing
influences many of the same colors are used in traditional
oriental medicine. The sheer silk he uses is so light and
delicate it is like painting on air. All these elements come
together giving me a centeral vision and the ability to
create images that can bring joy and peace to the
viewer."

In Tibet
The first huge Buddha image (above) is
108 by 70 feet, about as high as a 14 story building. It
features 10 figures and is displayed once a year to
celebrate the Buddha's birth and enlightenment.
Terris and Leslie worked together on
life-sized Buddha image painted on silk with mineral
pigments and gold, presently in the King of Thailand's
private collection. The traditional materials and techniques
used by Temple Arts Studio makes their work extremely long
lasting.
From 1992 to 1997, they created two
commissioned by the Tsurphu monastery, seat of the Karmapa
lineage, to replace the treasured images destroyed during
the Cultural Revolution. click
The second image (above right) is 30
feet by 30 feet. It is a wrathful representation and
features ten protector figures.

A new
Designing of 12th
century murals
at Kathogt Dorjedhan Monastery, the original Nyingmapa
Monastery in Eastern Tibet. This will be painted in the
original Pala Dynasty style, first introduced to Tibet in
the 8th century from India. Katok is Tibet's first
Monastery, established in the 8th century.
