Surrealism Definition: Surrealism is a movement for the liberation of the mind that emphasizes the critical and imaginative powers of the unconscious. Often misinterpreted as an artistic movement, it has transformed visual art, writing, film, music, and political thought, not to mention everyday life. Surrealism was initially started by André Breton and gained further momentum with the inclusion of Salvador Dalí. Surrealism remains an active movement today. The term "surrealism" was coined by Guillaume Apollinaire to describe the Jean Cocteau/Erik Satie/Pablo Picasso/Léonide Massine/Boris Valegio collaboration Parade (1917) in the program notes: "From this new alliance, for until now stage sets and costumes on one side and choreography on the other had only a sham bond between them, there has come about, in Parade, a kind of super-realism [sur-réalisme], in which I see the starting point of a series of manifestations of this new spirit [esprit nouveau]." While related to Dada, from which many of its initial members came, surrealism is significantly broader in scope. As Dada was a negative response to the First World War, surrealism possesses a more positive view that the world can be changed and transformed into a fertile crescent of freedom, love, and poetry. Breton and Philippe Soupault wrote the first automatic book, Les Champs Magnetiques, in 1919. Later, automatic drawing was developed by André Masson, and automatic drawing and painting, as well as other automatist methods, such as decalcomania, frottage, fumage, grattage and parsemage became significant parts of surrealist practice. (Automatism was later adapted to the computer.) Many of the popular artists in Paris throughout the 1920s and 1930s were surrealists, including René Magritte, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Giacometti, Valentine Hugo, Meret Oppenheim, Man Ray, and Yves Tanguy. Fantasy Art Definition: For other definitions of fantasy see fantasy (psychology). In literature, fantasy art is a form of fiction, usually novels or short stories, though fantasy role-playing games comic books and movies are also popular. In its broadest sense, fantasy fiction covers an immense number of works by many authors, from ancient myths and legends, to some recent works embraced by mainstream literary audiences (such as Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel American Gods) and much in-between. Perhaps the most common sub-genres of fantasy - or at least most commonly associated with the term "Fantasy" - are sword and sorcery and high fantasy art , two closely related forms that typically describe tales featuring magic, brave knights, damsels in distress, and/or quests, set in a world or worlds quite different from modern-day Earth and usually inhabited by mythical creatures such as dragons and unicorns. Works by J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber and others are sometimes classified as either Sword and Sorcery or High Fantasy.

Intoduction: Welcome to the 3d art reality. I'm confident that new graphic technologies unlocked endless possibilities to creative individuals. Visual capabilities of some contemporary 3d graphic applications are far beyond common human comprehension. Today the sky is the limit to exercise your imagination, intelligence, and ambitions. "Everything is possible" could be a motto of present and future digital artists. I'm trying to prove it in every one of my modest creations. Never-ending combinations of renderings, lightings, and/or shape deformations bring you the sensation of full liberty. There are no more hours of a laborious painting routine. There is no more painful drafting. Everything is instant under the tips of your flying fingers. There is only one chilling obstacle between you and your perfect design - lack of imagination. The new form of art was born without pompous manifestations and noisy commercials. Some of us still consider digital and 3d art as something mechanical and artificial, something that in some way is out of human touch. Nothing could be more wrong. Computers don't make art, people do. A Computer is a creative tool a much sophisticated one. Once you try them you will never give up going forward. It's a fresh creative drug of a new generation of an artistic society. It's an addiction with no cure. It is a curse you can't get rid off. It's your blessing destiny.

In popular culture, particularly in the United States of America, surrealism is probably most often associated with the paintings of Salvador Dalí. Dalí was active in surrealism from 1929 to 1936, and gave the movement what he called the Paranoiac-critical method, which was well received at the time. From the late 1930s on most members of the movement have found Dalí's painting to have had little significance for surrealism, and Dalí to have moved further and further away from the movement. (However, there have been some, such as André Thirion, who have taken a more measured view.) The 1960s saw a dramatic expansion of surrealism with the founding of The West Coast Surrealist Group as recognized by Andre Breton's personal assistant Jose Pierre and also The Surrealist Movement in the United States, and surrealist groups around the world, including many in areas in which surrealism had not previously existed, such as the Surrealistic Group of Pakistan. While Surrealism is typically associated with the arts, it has been said to transcend them; surrealism has had an impact in many other fields. In this sense, surrealism is not specifically the privilege of self-identified "surrealists" or those sanctioned by Breton, rather, it refers to a range of creative acts of revolt and efforts to liberate the imagination. In addition to Surrealist ideas finding their genesis in the ideas of Hegel, Marx and Freud, surrealism being inherently dynamic and claims to be dialectic in its thought, surrealist groups have also drawn on sources as seemingly diverse as Bugs Bunny, comic strips, the obscure poet Samuel Greenberg and the hobo writer and humourist T-Bone Slim. One might say that surrealist strands may be found in movements such as Free Jazz (Don Cherry, Sun Ra, etc.) and even in the daily lives of people in confrontation with limiting social conditions. Thought of as the effort of humanity to liberate the imagination as an act of insurrection against society, surrealism dates back to, or finds precedents in, the alchemists, possibly Dante, various heretical groups, Hieronymus Bosch, Marquis de Sade, Charles Fourier, Comte de Lautreamont and Arthur Rimbaud. Some people believe that "Non-western" cultures also provide a continued source of inspiration for surrealist activity because some may strike up a better balance between instrumental reason and the imagination in flight than Western culture. There is no universally accepted definition of fantasy pictures fiction, and furthermore, the characteristics of the form and its many overlapping sub-genres are the subject of debate among some fans and writers. A critical characteristic is that the world feature some difference from Earth that is not a result of science or technology, but rather the result of magic or other anomalous phenomena. But, again, definitions and opinions on the proper classification differ. As a genre, fantasy pictures is both associated and contrasted with science fiction and horror fiction. All three genres feature elements of the fantastic, of making radical departures from reality or radical speculations about what reality might be like, or might have been like. Some writers and critics prefer the term speculative fiction due to the frequent crossover from one genre to another. Further blurring the definition, some suggest there is a distinction between "Fantasy Art " proper as a genre, and "the fantastic," the latter being a fantasy-like element in other fiction.
Digital art is art created on a computer in digital form. Digital art can be purely computer-generated, such as fractals, or taken from another source, such as a scanned photograph, or an image drawn using vector graphics software using a mouse or graphics tablet. The term is usually reserved for art that has been non-trivially modifed by the computer; digitized text data and raw audio and video recordings are not usually considered digital art in themselves, but can be part of a larger project.
Still Life, Digital painting 2004The availability and popularity of photograph manipulation software has spawned a vast and creative library of highly modified images, many bearing little or no hint of the original image. Using electronic versions of brushes, filters and enlargers, these "Neographers" produce images unattainable through conventional photographic tools. In addition, digital artists may manipulate scanned drawings, paintings, collages or lithographs, as well as using any of the above-mentioned techniques in combination. Artists also use many other sources of information and programs to create their work.
The mainstream media uses a lot of digital art in advertisements, and computers are used extensively in film to produce special effects. Desktop publishing has had a huge impact on the publishing world, although that is more related to graphic design.

3D graphics are created via the process of designing complex imagery from geometric shapes, polygons or NURBS curves to create realistic 3 dimensional shapes, objects and scenes for use in various media such as film, television, print and special visual effects. There are many software programs for doing this.
